Treating Breakouts on the Chest, Back, and Booty

Body

Let’s have a chat about those pesky skin breakouts that pop up on our backs, shoulder, or even our booty. Even though we can hide these breakouts more easily than those on our face, the embarrassment can still linger in our thoughts. Our approach to dealing with acne sets us apart from many others.

We learned that oil production occurs in waves. At around the age of 15 the oil glands develop in the upper back and upper chest area. When it comes to clearing our shoulders, back and booty, we treat them all in a similar way.

The same factors that cause acne on our face are also at play when it starts on our body. It’s all about genetics…thank you mom and/or dad! When we have genetically acne-prone skin, it means our skin sheds 4-6 layers of dead skin in just 28 days, as opposed to the usual 1-2 layers. Add 40-50% more dead skin cells mixed with excess oil production in the mix, and we’ve got ourselves clogged pores that eventually lead to acne.

Before we dive into tips on clearing your body breakouts, let’s start by determining what type of acne you have. Understanding the type of breakouts you’re dealing with will help you choose the right treatment.

What type of body acne do you have?

Inflamed = Inflammation and pus in the pore
Non-inflammed = Blackheads and/or whiteheads (bumps that don’t have pus)

What is the best approach for your body acne?

Inflamed = Body Breakout Set + Salicylic Toner (if you need to get off sweat fast! Read on….)
Non-inflamed = Salicylic Toner and/or Mandelic Serum 10%

Both types of acne have blockages from dead skin cells, and oil in the pore, however the inflamed acne has the presence of C. acne bacteria. We have the answer to destroy the bacteria, clear and smooth your skin.

INFLAMED:

If you have 10+ pimples/pustules on your body the Body Breakout Set will be the best solution for you. Let the magic unfold while you sleep! An easy three step system that will target the C. acne, clear out the pores from debris, exfoliate, smooth and even out skin color. Benzoyl Peroxide Scrub + Acne Treatment + Mandelic Serum

If you have less than 10 pimples use the Acne Treatment 10% + Sulfur as a spot treatment.

NON-INFLAMMED:

If you have small bumps on your bootie use the Hydrator Serum + Mandelic Serum 10%.

If you find that you have small bumps on your chest use the Hydrator Serum + Mandelic Serum 5%. This is because we treat the chest like the face, due to the sensitivity of this area.

TIPS TO MINIMIZE THE ISSUE:

Some contributing factors to body acne that you might not be aware of are tight-fitting clothing, snug collars, backpacks, purse straps, athletic pads or gear. Make sure to wash athletic wear and gear daily.

Wash and condition your hair BEFORE you wash your body. Waxes and silicones can be present in your conditioner and be left on your backside after rinsing.

Skip the scented laundry soaps and fabric softeners. Many contain animal fats and/or waxes that can be warmed and “pressed” into the skin, increasing breakouts.

Sweat. It’s crucial to get rid of sweat ASAP. A quick and easy solution is Salicylic Toner. Just toss it in your gym bag along with some cotton rounds, and swipe it over the areas where you’re breaking out. Salicylic acid is a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) that can get through the oil, helping to break it down. Let the toner do the heavy lifting!

Additionally, dairy, seaweed, miso and salt can also play a role. When you consume dairy and salt, the iodine can excrete through the sweat and iodine is a trigger. If you have acne-prone pores (genetics), what you ingest can increase your breakouts.

There is no cure for acne….it all comes down to consistency and management. Unsure what is the right products for your body breakouts? We are here for you!
